Make timely application for renewal of practising certificate for the year 2027

The annual pracitising certificates of doctors for the year 2026 will expire on 31 December 2026, Thursday. In a notification letter issued on 30 September 2026, Wednesday the Medical Council of Hong Kong reminded all registered medical practitioners to make timely application for renewal of the practising certificates, and announced that for applications made by 7 November 2026, Saturday the practising certificates would be issued by 31 December 2026, Thursday.

This year's renewal exercise takes place alongside the legislative process for the Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill 2026 ("the Bill"), which, if passed, will introduce a number of changes to the application and issuance of practising certificates, including but are not limited to the following:

1. Criminalisation of practising without a valid practising certificate
2. New application and declaration requirements
3. Change of validity period
